A Bit About Us

 

Gosforth Residents Association (GRA) is a registered charity that manages and maintains

a small hall within the local community of Gosforth.

​

At GRA, we are committed to enhancing the lives of the people who use the hall in the community through our wide range of activities and events. 

 

Ever since opening our doors to the community, we have provided our users with the chance to get together and experience all sorts of activities and private functions.

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting

1.00 pm Saturday May 17thth 2025

  1. The welcome and opening remarks were given by the Chair, thanking the Committee for all their hard work over the past year and making particular reference to Barbara Charlton, who died suddenly and unexpectedly in Feb. this year. Barbara’s commitment to the charity over 15 years was exemplary and she is greatly missed. At this point the meeting was interrupted by Mr Mumtaz Faiz, who complained that, as a trustee he had not been consulted about the date of the AGM and not enough notice had been given by the Committee of the AGM. He quoted incorrect data from a screen shot on his phone from Chatgbt, this was disputed by a member asking for any official legislation, which Mr Faiz did not provide, admitting he had just done a google search.The secretary tried to explain when and how the AGM was agreed (Appendix 1) but he refused to listen and kept quoting from his phone. He left the meeting at this point, choosing not to remain and contribute to the rest of the meeting.

  2.  There were no apologies for absence received. 

  3. The Committee had over the past year; replaced the oven in the kitchen, arranged for a defibrillator to be fitted to the outside of the building, and provide training on how to use to it. Arranged for a First Aid Training Course for anyone wanting to attend.Obtained a quote for replacing some of the windows, raising the funds needed is on-going. Welcomed four new groups who are using the hall on a regular basis. Organised repairs to the internal building along with decoration.

  4.  Treasurers report, 24/25 had been a difficult year and one group, has for over a year, an           outstanding debt of £675, Mr Faiz had been asked to pay the amount before 1st June     2025. Total income was £6,639.60, total expenses £8,395.99 meaning a loss of £1756.39. (The debt was subsequently paid on 19th May 2025)      

5.    The accounts, which had already been agreed by the Committee, were accepted by all             present.

6.     As no nominations were received the Chair, Mrs Margaret Gray, was voted in with a       majority of those present. The Secretary, Mr Peter Glenn was voted in by a majority present. The Treasurer, Mr Peter Glenn, was voted in by a majority present.

7.    Two applications had been received from members to join the Committee. Mrs E Dinnis and      Mrs G Devine. Members present voted and agreed to their appointments.

8.   No questions had been received from the floor prior to the meeting.

9.   The date of the next AGM is 16th May 2026.

The meeting was closed at 13.30.

 

 Appendix 1

GRA Committee Meeting, April 19th 2025

Four committee members attended with one apology (Mumtaz Faiz).

In accordance with the Constitution, this was a quorum of both committee members and trustees.

The date for the AGM was agreed by all those present and was set for 17 May 2025 at 1pm, this date was 28 days away.

Notice of the AGM, in accordance with the GRA Constitution, is 21 days. Notices were posted on the external cabinet on the GRA building, inside on the notice board, on the front page of the web site and all groups were notified by email of the details within this time scale.

All are welcome but only members of GRA can vote.

Irish and Indian Fusion dance

Here is an example of one of the groups who use the hall from time to time to practise there fusion of Irish and Indian dance routines. They are currently working on the routines that will be performed at the Edinburgh Finge festival this August.
